Inside Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell’s Colorado Ranch: The Home Their Family Never Outgrew

For more than four decades, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have built a life that extends far beyond Hollywood.

While their careers have kept them connected to Los Angeles and other major cities, their Colorado retreat has remained something different: a place centered on family, nature, horses, mountains, and memories.

Their Old Snowmass property is a sprawling log-cabin retreat, and Russell has described it as his favorite home. What seems to matter most to him isn’t luxury or status, but the simple rhythm of mountain life—waking up to the mountains, riding horses from the barn, and relaxing beside the fireplace.

A Love of Log Homes That Started Long Before Goldie

Kurt Russell’s affection for log cabins goes back to his childhood.

His grandparents built a log cabin in Rangeley, Maine, in 1939, and that early experience apparently stayed with him. Years later, he and Goldie shared the same appreciation for rustic homes and eventually created their own mountain retreat in Colorado.

Russell has explained that Colorado was never simply about escaping Hollywood. He continued working in Los Angeles while maintaining a very different kind of everyday life in the mountains.

For him, the appeal was remarkably straightforward: mountains outside the bedroom, horses nearby, and a fireplace waiting at the end of the day.

Their Son Accidentally Revealed What the House Was Really Like

One of the most interesting glimpses inside the property came during a television appearance rather than a formal celebrity home tour.

In 2022, Oliver Hudson appeared remotely on Live with Kelly and Ryan from the Colorado property.

The room behind him looked comfortable and lived-in rather than freshly staged for television.

Oliver called the place something of a “time capsule.”

Then he revealed one particularly memorable detail.

Some of the curtains visible behind him had been hanging in the house for roughly three decades. According to Oliver, Goldie simply didn’t feel the need to replace them.

That small detail says a lot about the character of the property.

Instead of constantly updating everything to match the latest decorating trends, parts of the house were allowed to remain exactly as the family remembered them.

A Home Filled With Family Memories

The Colorado ranch became more than a beautiful property.

It became part of the family’s history.

Oliver spent part of his childhood there, and later he brought his own children back to Colorado so they could experience some of the outdoor lifestyle he remembered.

For the family, the ranch represented a slower pace—snow, nature, outdoor activities, and time together away from the intensity of Los Angeles.

Even Christmas became part of the property’s mythology.

Oliver has recalled one particularly elaborate Christmas morning when Kurt created the illusion that Santa had visited the ranch. There were sled tracks on the roof, a bell supposedly left behind by one of Santa’s reindeer, and even a present positioned inside the chimney.

For a child, it was the kind of Christmas that could become a lifelong memory.

And the family continued those traditions with the next generation.

Their Los Angeles Home Was a Completely Different Story

The contrast becomes especially interesting when their Colorado ranch is compared with their former Pacific Palisades property.

Goldie and Kurt bought the Los Angeles home in 2005 for about $4.1 million and later sold it in 2017 for approximately $6.9 million.

The property subsequently underwent changes and eventually returned to the market with a much higher asking price. In January 2026, it was reported that Anthony Hopkins purchased the former Hawn-Russell estate for $13 million.

The California property offered the kind of features associated with an upscale Los Angeles estate: a swimming pool, entertaining areas, fire pits, a putting green, multiple fireplaces, and other polished amenities.

It was impressive.

But it didn’t have quite the same feeling as the Colorado ranch.

The Los Angeles house evolved with new owners and renovations.

The Colorado home retained its history.

Why the Colorado Ranch Still Stands Out

Goldie and Kurt have owned or spent time at properties in several locations, including Los Angeles, Palm Desert, New York, and Colorado.

Yet Russell has repeatedly singled out the Old Snowmass property as his favorite.

The reason isn’t difficult to understand.

There are no red carpets there.

No movie premieres.

No Hollywood crowds.

Just mountains, horses, family, and a house filled with decades of memories.

The ranch has also remained connected to the family’s younger generations, making it more than a retreat for Goldie and Kurt themselves.

And perhaps that’s why Oliver’s story about the old curtains is so memorable.

A multimillion-dollar home can be replaced.

A view can change.

Furniture can be renovated.

But a familiar room where generations of a family have gathered carries something that money can’t easily recreate.

For Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, the Colorado ranch appears to represent exactly that kind of place.

A home built around memories rather than appearances.

A place where horses wait at the barn, mountains fill the windows, Christmas traditions continue, and old curtains can remain simply because they belong there.

After more than 40 years, that may be the most valuable thing about their mountain home: it still feels like home.
