“I Felt Like My Organs Were Being Crushed”: Young Woman’s 100-Pound Ovarian Cyst Changed Her Life Forever

For years, Allison Fisher believed her pain would eventually disappear on its own.

Instead, it nearly cost her life.

The 20-year-old Florida woman is now sharing her shocking medical journey after doctors discovered a massive 100-pound ovarian cyst growing inside her body, pressing against her organs and making everyday life unbearable.

Today, Allison says she feels like she has been given a second chance at life.

The Pain Began Years Earlier

Allison’s health problems started back in 2020. At first, the symptoms seemed easy to dismiss: constant stomach pain, irregular periods, and discomfort that slowly became impossible to ignore.

But despite knowing something was wrong, Allison avoided going to the doctor.

She feared she would once again hear the same painful response she had received throughout her childhood.

“Lose weight.”

According to Allison, many of her previous medical visits ended with doctors focusing on her size instead of listening to her concerns.

“Whether I had a cold or an ear infection, I was always told I needed to lose weight,” she explained during an interview with Action News Jax.

Eventually, that fear kept her away from seeking help, even as her symptoms worsened.

“I let myself believe that if I ignored it, it would go away,” Allison admitted. “I was scared. I was really scared.”

Her Stomach Continued Growing

As months passed, Allison noticed her stomach becoming larger and harder.

At one point, she began researching her symptoms online and came across articles about ovarian cysts. Deep down, she feared that might be the cause.

Sadly, she was right.

“I felt like I was pregnant with ten kids,” Allison said. “I couldn’t lay on my stomach. It felt like all my organs were being crushed.”

The cyst eventually became so enormous that it began pushing against her lungs, making it difficult for her to breathe normally.

By late 2022, Allison’s condition had become impossible to ignore any longer.

Doctors Made a Shocking Discovery

Around Christmas of 2022, Allison finally met with gynecologic oncology surgeon Dr. Martin Martino at Ascension St. Vincent’s in Florida.

The diagnosis stunned everyone.

Doctors discovered that Allison was carrying a giant ovarian cyst weighing approximately 100 pounds.

The growth needed to be removed immediately.

During surgery, doctors uncovered another frightening complication.

Once the massive cyst was removed, surgeons were finally able to see Allison’s other ovary, which had twisted three separate times due to the pressure inside her abdomen.

Dr. Martino later explained that the ovary measured around 10 centimeters and required urgent intervention.

Fortunately, surgeons were able to untwist and save it, preserving Allison’s future fertility and her ability to one day have children.

A Life-Changing Surgery

Thankfully, the surgery was successful.

For Allison, the difference afterward felt unbelievable.

“I can see my feet again,” she shared emotionally. “I haven’t been able to do that in years.”

Simple daily tasks suddenly became possible again.

“I can stand longer. I feel lighter. I can wear clothes comfortably. I can finally do things that normal people can do.”

After years of pain, fear, and isolation, Allison says she now feels hopeful about the future.

She has also started the early stages of weight-loss surgery and says she is excited about the new chapter ahead of her.

A Message for Others Afraid to Seek Help

More than anything, Allison hopes her experience encourages others not to ignore warning signs or delay medical care out of fear or shame.

“There are other people out there just like me,” she said. “People who are scared to go to the doctor because of their weight.”

Her message is simple but powerful:

“Don’t be afraid.”
