Controversy Surrounds News Anchor’s Attire: Is It Inappropriate?

Individuals with careers that involve appearing on camera, in any capacity, quickly adapt to receiving negative comments about their appearance. This is particularly prevalent in today’s era, where the internet has made everything accessible to a global audience, and social media has facilitated anonymous judgment.

For someone like Kristen Nicole, a journalist, this level of scrutiny is par for the course. However, she was taken aback when viewers complained about her visible baby bump. Kristen, a mother of one already, was expecting another child when viewers contacted her news station to express their grievances about her showing her baby bump.

One might assume that a successful working mother deserves praise, especially when she continues to work during the final stages of pregnancy. Yet, there are always individuals ready to express negativity.

Kristen was seated behind a news desk, dressed in a form-fitting blue dress when the complaints began, as reported by AOL. However, she promptly responded to the criticism with a Facebook post, explaining that she wears the dress approximately once a month and has no intention of discontinuing this practice due to a few detractors.

In her Facebook post, the news anchor wrote, “LET ME SAVE YOU SOME TROUBLE. My email address is ***, but if you’re writing to tell me that you’re offended by the sight of my baby bump, don’t hold your breath waiting for a response. It’s not coming. I wear this dress probably once a month.

No one has EVER had a problem with it. Wear it almost 8 months pregnant? Woah… disgusting, right? (insert massive eye roll).”

Addressing specific complainants, Kristen urged, “To Karen, Gene, and Sabrina who wrote to me today, use your time better. Pay someone a compliment. Do a good deed. To everyone else who has sent messages of congratulations and well wishes,” Nicole added. “You are keeping me motivated through these last 6 weeks. We’re finally in the home stretch! I have had a healthy, comfortable, stress-free pregnancy. My husband, son, and I are beyond excited to meet our new addition.

Thank you for being a part of our journey!”

Evidently, the news anchor received three emails from three different individuals—Karen, Gene, and Sabrina—all expressing dissatisfaction with her decision to display her baby bump in the form-fitting blue dress. One of these critics even accused Kristen of wearing a fake baby bump to boost her ratings, while another criticized her choice of attire during pregnancy.
