Angelina Jolie’s legal team has claimed that Brad Pitt’s alleged abuse towards her began long before the infamous 2016 plane incident.
According to documents obtained by Page Six, Jolie alleges that Pitt’s physical abuse towards her “started well before” the plane incident. The filing suggests that Pitt’s abuse also extended to their children during the flight, prompting Jolie to leave him immediately afterward.
The document further details Pitt’s refusal to allow Jolie to sell her portion of their French winery, Chateau Miraval, unless she signed a restrictive non-disclosure agreement (NDA). The NDA purportedly aimed to cover Pitt’s “personal misconduct,” including allegations of abuse, to prevent Jolie from speaking out.
Jolie’s lawyers claim that Pitt’s insistence on the NDA intensified after Jolie submitted sealed documents in 2021 as part of their child custody dispute. Pitt allegedly backed out of purchasing Jolie’s shares of the winery, fearing that the sealed documents could become public.
In response, Jolie’s attorney, Paul Murphy, stated that Pitt’s refusal to buy her shares while suing her directly addressed the importance of the NDA and aimed to conceal his alleged abuse.
The filing also asserts that Jolie never pursued legal action against Pitt because she believed it was best for him to take responsibility and aid their family in recovering from the trauma caused by his alleged abuse.
A representative for Pitt was not immediately available for comment. However, a source familiar with Pitt’s side of the story dismissed Jolie’s claims as attempts to deflect from legal setbacks.
Earlier documents revealed Pitt’s allegations that Jolie sold her shares of Château Miraval out of spite after he was granted joint custody of their children, a decision later overturned.
The filing also indicated that Jolie proposed a broader NDA agreement than Pitt’s team, with Pitt’s NDA primarily intended to protect the business without restricting Jolie’s ability to discuss their divorce or custody proceedings in legal settings.
