Country music star Riley Green has shown his support for legendary singer Sammy Kershaw after the veteran artist revealed his disappointment over an unexpected decision surrounding this year’s CMA Awards.
The controversy began when Kershaw shared a message on social media explaining that his request to attend the 60th Annual CMA Awards and walk the red carpet alongside his wife had been turned down.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for November 18, 2026, at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. This year’s show is expected to celebrate the music and artists of the 1990s, making Kershaw’s situation particularly disappointing given his contribution to that era of country music.
According to Kershaw, he had been looking forward to attending the event and had already rearranged his schedule, booked flights and reserved hotel accommodation. After waiting several months for an answer, however, he was eventually informed that he would not be allowed to walk the red carpet.

The singer admitted that the decision left him feeling hurt, embarrassed and deeply disappointed.
Riley Green Sends A Message Of Support
Kershaw’s comments quickly attracted attention throughout the country music community, with several fellow performers and fans speaking out in his defence.
Among those showing their support was Riley Green.
Rather than simply offering words of encouragement, Green shared a special musical tribute on his Instagram Stories.
While spending time in Maui, Hawaii, Green picked up his guitar and performed an acoustic version of Kershaw’s 1991 hit song, “Yard Sale.”
Alongside the performance, Green wrote a simple but meaningful message expressing that he felt like playing some Sammy Kershaw that evening.
The two artists also share a musical connection, having previously performed the same song together during Green’s 2022 We Out Here Tour.

Country Music Fans Rally Behind Kershaw
Green’s gesture was another reminder of the respect many artists have for Kershaw and his lasting contribution to country music.
Fans have also voiced their disappointment over the situation, questioning why an established country music artist with such a significant history in the genre would be excluded from the red-carpet festivities.
As of November 8, the Country Music Association has not issued a public response to Kershaw’s comments.
For now, one thing is clear: Riley Green has made his feelings known, and his musical tribute has helped shine an even brighter spotlight on Sammy Kershaw and the legacy he has built throughout his career.
