Melania Trump “doing her own thing” while staying out of the White House spotlight.

Since Inauguration Day, Melania Trump has largely stayed out of the public eye. Aside from accompanying her husband, President Donald Trump, to Los Angeles during the devastating wildfires—where she was praised for her compassionate approach—her appearances have been rare. Her absence has once again fueled speculation about her whereabouts, a topic that has followed her throughout the years.

A Different Approach to the Role of First Lady

Melania made it clear that her second term as First Lady would be different. She won’t be living in the White House full-time, and according to new reports, politics isn’t a major focus for her. Instead, she has prioritized supporting her son, Barron, who recently returned to New York to begin his studies at NYU’s Stern School of Business.

In a Fox News interview, Melania explained her approach:

“I will be in the White House when needed. When I need to be in New York, I’ll be in New York. When I need to be in Palm Beach, I’ll be in Palm Beach. My first priority is to be a mom, a First Lady, and a wife. And once we are in on January 20, you serve the country.”

Despite being present for both Election Day and Inauguration Day, Melania has barely been seen since. She notably skipped the Super Bowl in New Orleans and has spent much of her time in Florida rather than Washington.

A Touching Moment Amid the Wildfires

One of Melania’s most notable public appearances was during her trip to Los Angeles with President Trump to meet with Governor Gavin Newsom. A viral moment from the visit showed her speaking Slovenian to comfort a wildfire victim, earning praise online.

Social media users applauded her kindness, with one writing:

“When we speak to people in their native tongue, they feel heard, they feel listened to, they feel the love! What an incredible First Lady.”

Skipping Diplomatic Engagements

Melania’s absence has been particularly noticeable during key diplomatic events. While President Trump has met with world leaders—including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi—Melania has not been present. She was also missing from Oval Office executive order signings and White House celebrations for championship-winning sports teams.

Filming an Amazon Documentary

So what has Melania been doing? According to reports, much of her time has been spent working on an upcoming Amazon documentary about her life.

A political insider told People Magazine:

“Her absence from the spotlight shouldn’t be surprising—this is how she chooses to live. She will never be a traditional First Lady and has her own ideas about what she wants to do.”

Filming for the project began in December 2024, and Amazon confirmed it will be released in theaters and on Prime Video in late 2025. The deal is reportedly worth $40 million.

Speaking about the documentary on Fox & Friends, Melania said:

“My memoir was such a success that I thought people would love to hear more. My life is incredibly busy, and I wanted to share what it’s really like—day-to-day responsibilities, moving into the White House, hiring staff, and everything else people don’t see.”

Life Between Mar-a-Lago and the White House

Despite her limited presence in Washington, Melania recently attended the White House Governors Ball. According to a source who spoke with People Magazine, she splits her time between the White House and Mar-a-Lago, but she isn’t handling any official First Lady duties.

“[Donald and Melania] both live at Mar-a-Lago and have quarters in the White House. But she leads her own life and joins him when appropriate.”

While she keeps to herself in Florida, she does occasionally accompany Trump to dinner.

A New Mission: Improving Trump’s Diet?

Melania is rumored to be taking on another challenge—improving her husband’s eating habits. PageSix reported that she has teamed up with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in an effort to encourage the president to adopt a healthier diet.

“RFK Jr. and Melania are ‘ganging up’ on the President-elect to get him to eat healthier—fewer Big Macs and less KFC, and more lean protein, salads, and veggies,” a source claimed.

Reportedly, Melania has even been cooking herself to encourage better eating habits. However, another insider dismissed the idea, saying, “Nonsense! Trump eats whatever he wants.”

Melania’s Second Term: A More Independent Role

Melania has admitted that she felt misunderstood during her first term as First Lady.

“Maybe some people see me as just the wife of the president, but I stand on my own two feet. I have my own thoughts, my own yes and no. I don’t always agree with my husband, and that’s okay.”

While she has largely stayed out of the spotlight, it seems Melania is taking a different approach this time around—one that allows her to balance family, personal projects, and her own vision for the role of First Lady.
